MA in Classical Theatre – LAMDA, 2021
Sara Laughtin was born and raised in Sacramento, California, and was fascinated with all forms of art and creativity from a young age. As a child, she constantly sang, wrote and performed small plays, danced, and even asked for a VHS copy of Kenneth Branagh’s Hamlet at eight years old! She attended the University of California, Berkeley, where she got her BA in Classical Languages and Ancient Near Eastern Art & Archaeology, as well as danced on the side.
Sara has received her MA in Classical Acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) in London, and has also trained at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in New York.
Before moving to New York, Sara lived a number of years in an ashram in Rishikesh, India, where she worked and continues to work for non-profits supporting environmental preservation, women’s vocational training and empowerment programs, orphanages, free medical care, veterinary programs, and much more, as well as engaging in her own spiritual practice. These experiences and lessons have deeply influenced her performance and her passion for art which brings about presence, truth, and human connection.
Sara is also a visual artist. Heavily influenced by philosophy and her own spiritual experience, she tries through her art to express the inexpressible and to bring to light revelations she has come to know within herself.
Sara believes theatre and art are absolutely crucial to our current world, as it has the power to bring people together, to heal, and to bring beauty into the world.
